SMS Alert Policy

Last Updated: January 20, 2025

1. Purpose of SMS Alerts

AuctionMapper uses SMS (text message) alerts exclusively for internal system monitoring and administrator notifications. These alerts help maintain the reliability and performance of our services.

Important: No SMS messages are ever sent to website visitors or general users.

2. Administrator Opt-In Process

System administrators explicitly opt-in to receive alerts by:

  • Configuring their phone number in secure server environment variables
  • Deploying the application with monitoring features enabled
  • This configuration serves as explicit consent to receive system alerts

3. Types of Messages

All messages are non-promotional, operational alerts including:

  • Critical service outage notifications
  • API quota warnings (approaching limits)
  • System error alerts requiring immediate attention
  • Security incident notifications
  • Scheduled maintenance reminders

4. Message Frequency

Alert frequency is event-driven and limited by our system:

  • Maximum 10 non-critical alerts per hour
  • Critical alerts are always delivered
  • Automated monitoring runs every 15 minutes
  • Typical volume: 0-5 messages per week

5. Administrator Opt-Out

Administrators can opt-out at any time by:

  1. Removing their phone number from environment variables
  2. Redeploying the application
  3. Or replying STOP to any alert message

6. Data Protection

We protect administrator phone numbers by:

  • Storing numbers only in encrypted environment variables
  • Never logging or displaying full phone numbers
  • Using secure HTTPS connections for all SMS API calls
  • Retaining message logs for 7 days only
